Joaquin (Jack) Morales

Joaquin (Jack) Morales, 85, of Comfort, died Sunday, March 23, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort with the Rev. Mike Peinemann and Deacon Dave Burkart officiating.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed at San Jose Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort where visitation and a vigil service were held Tuesday evening, March 25.

Morales was born Feb. 12, 1929, at Lane Valley in Kerr County. He married Dolores Rios on July 19, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she survives.

He retired after 37 years of service with the Texas Department of Transportation.

In addition to his wife, Morales is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. and Marie Morales, and a daughter, Susan Morales, all of Comfort; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Crespena and Silverio Rios of Comfort; a half-sister, Maria Duran of Mountain Home, and a half-brother and wife, Benita and Ellie Sarabia of Comfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Maria Morales, Benita Ramirez and Julia Estrada.

Memorials may be made to the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers were Seferino Rios Jr., Silverio Rios Jr., Alfredo Lopez, Benito Rios III, Chris Valenzuela and Augustine Coronado.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Hernandez, Rudolfo Rios and George Lopez Jr.
