MRS. WILLIAM BREEN

Mrs. William (Bill) Breen, 90, nee Ethel Phillips, of Priddy, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

A memorial service was held Monday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville with the Rev. Don Rauhut officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Mrs. Breen was born March 5, 1923, in Calumef County, Wis., the daughter of Stanley Phillips and Inez Stage Phillips. She married the Rev. Dr. William Breen on May 31, 1986, in Green Bay, Wis., and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Breen is survived by the following children and spouses: Kay Jouno of San Diego, Calif.; Eleefa Mae and Michael Selner, Oneida, Wis., and Mark and Paula Juneau, Arvada, Colo.; step-children and spouses: Eric and Kim Breen, Clarmont, Fla.; Kari Breen, Edmonson; Greg and Gel Breen, Pinecrest, Fla., and Sarah Breen, Shorewood, Wis.

Survivors also include three grandchildren and a sister, Bea Lawhead, Murrieta, Calif.

Mrs. Breen was preceded in death by a step-son, Michael Breen.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Raymond Ottmers Sr.

Mrs. Raymond Ottmers Sr., 94, nee Ruth Lena Moritz, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, July 29, and Tuesday morning, July 30.

Mrs. Ottmers was born April 17, 1919, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Charles A. Moritz Sr. and Rosa Burg Moritz. She married Raymond William Ottmers Sr. on Jan. 4, 1938, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death.

She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Jim Mathews of Abilene; a brother, Max Moritz of California; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ottmers was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Margaret Banta; her son, Raymond Max Ottmers; one sister, Josephine Mazurek, and five brothers, including Clemens Moritz, Lawrence Moritz, Felix Moritz, Frank Moritz and Charles Moritz.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Calvin D. Moehle, 86, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with entombment following in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph’s Halle Restoration, St. Mary’s Parish Capital Campaign or to the charity of choice.

Roy H. Lane, 85, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. William Karlson officiating. Visitation was held beforehand.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Lane was born March 5, 1928, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Roy Henry and Elsie Frances Marck Lumpp. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Seefeldt on April 18, 1952, in Evanston, Ill. She preceded him in death.

He was retired from Unocal Corporation where he was a senior tax accountant.

Lane is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Connie Lane Jr. of San Antonio, and a sister-in-law, Marge Manos of Nevada.

In addition to his wife, his parents preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to the Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Joe Kirk Fulton, 81, of Stonewall and Lubbock, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.

Funeral services are being held today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at The Legacy Event Center in Lubbock.

Private graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Fulton Quien Sabe Ranch at Stonewall.

Memorials may be made to the American Quarter Horse Association Foundation in Amarillo and/or the Masked Rider Scholarship Fund at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

FANNIE LAURA WARDEN COX

Fannie Laura Warden Cox, 91, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Johnson City with interment following in the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home of Johnson City where visitation was held Friday evening, Aug. 2.

Mrs. Cox was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Calera, Bryan County, Okla., the daughter of Tom and Cora Warden. She married Fred Stiles Cox on July 7, 1938. He preceded her in death.

Since her husband was a Methodist minister, the Cox family lived in various locations across the state.

At one time, she attended nursing school, and would work as a nurses’ aide whenever she could.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Warren Jones of Fredericksburg and Julia and Harvey Schumann of Hye.

Survivors also include four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Warden.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice; First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 207, Johnson City, TX 78636, or Trinity Lutheran Church at Stonewall.

GLENN BRAY SR.

Glenn Dewayne Bray Sr., 62, of Kerrville, died Sunday, July 28, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Portland.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Bray was born Nov. 26, 1950, in Alice, the son of Julius Bray and Lola Turverville Bray. He married Norma Ahrens on Nov. 26, 1983, in San Juan and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Bray is survived by a son, Glenn D. Bray Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Victoria; two step-sons: Charles Newkirk and his wife, Alyshia, of Kasse,  and Bolivar Newkirk of Odessa.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Survivors also include one brother and two sisters and spouses, including J.R. and Patty Bray, Marble Falls; Loretta Boyd, High Springs, Fla., and Maxine and Gary Barnstable, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Magnolia Bray, who died in infancy.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church of Portland or to the charity of choice.

Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Sheriff Jim Judd, 66, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. in Pavilion #1 in Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.

The family will greet friends from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday prior to the memorial service.

Private interment of the cremains will be held at a later date.

Robert (Bob) Jones

ROBERT (BOB) JONES

Robert (Bob) Jones, 54, of Corpus Christi died July 26, 2013, in a Corpus Christi hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg.

Born in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 22, 1959, Jones attended Fredericksburg High School and San Diego Community College.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he spent his 31-year career in numerous sales and managerial roles in computer, automotive, banking and advertising industries.

He lived in Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Dallas before moving to Corpus Christi in 2011. He joined the Corpus Christi Caller-Times as an acquisition sales representative that same year.

Survivors include a brother, David Jones of Fredericksburg and a foster brother and his wife, Michael and Sully Holman of the Austin area.

JAMES TRUETT GARRETT

James Truett Garrett, 79, of Houston, died Aug. 5, 2013.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.

Garrett was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Houston, the son of James A. Garrett and Gloria E. Ashorn Garrett.

He was a retired attorney.

Survivors include his siblings, Evelyn Wright of Emmityville, Calif.; Eloise McGinnis of Fredericksburg; Frances Connell of New York, N.Y., and Daniel Garrett of Silver Spring, Md.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, David George Garrett, John Stephen Garrett and Louise Marie Riggs.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the Lone Star Legal Aid, 1415 Fannin Street, 3rd Floor, Houston, Texas 77002.

Curtis Freitag

CURTIS FREITAG

Curtis Freitag, 78, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with Minister Harvey Hengst officiating.

Graveside service and interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, Aug. 8.

Freitag was born in Fredericksburg on Jan. 15, 1935, to Emil Herman Freitag and Lena Hulda Weber Freitag. He married Edith Ann Miller on Nov. 10, 1956, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and she survives.

Freitag’s parents operated a service station and grocery store. His father died when he was three, and his mother later married Paul Bergmann and Freitag gained two step-sisters, Lena and Laura.

He attended Pedernales School and later Fredericksburg. He installed windows in the Deluxe Motel and later worked at Behrends Garage, a Studebaker dealership at the time and the only wrecker service in town.

He moved to San Antonio and worked at a service station there before returning to Fredericksburg and working at a Texaco station at night and for Lester Knaupp doing auto body work during the day. He ended up going back to Behrends Garage where he bought his first Studebaker, and over the years became known as “The Studebaker Man.” He and his wife attended Studebaker conventions all over the United States.

For many years, he ran his own paint and body shop, wrecker service and trailer sales. He spent his last years working at the Fredericksburg Fina stations and helping his wife, who cooked at Fredericksburg Elementary School and Knopp Nursing Home No. 1.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie Freitag, and a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jim Bob Schladoer, all of Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to the Hill Country SPCA, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.

Pallbearers were Jim Bob Schladoer, Rhett Schladoer, Tim Clifton, Jerry Gold, David Jung and Mark Loeffler.

Honorary pallbearers were Karl Ritter, Leroy Holdforth, Gerald Howard, Mike Howard and Eddie Buch.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 4-7 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m.

A mass of resurrection will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment of the cremains will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Guadalupe Cedillo, 81, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

Graveside services and interment were held Monday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service at Greenwood Cemetery.

Ms. Cedillo was born April 7, 1932, in Hebbronville to Jose and Clara Vela Cedillo.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law and two sisters: Alex and Nuevemi Cedillo of Fredericksburg, Mary Mirelez and Rosalinda Sanchez.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.
