Mrs. Marvin Hargraves

MRS. MARVIN HARGRAVES

Mrs. Marvin Hargraves, 72, nee Dixie Kay Fleharty of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jeff Hammond officiating.

Interment of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hargraves was born Jan. 3, 1942, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Everett Lewis Fleharty and Hazel Gladys Liston Fleharty. She married Marvin Hargraves and he survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hargraves is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Knick Knickerbocker of Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. Hargraves was preceded in death by her parents, as well as a sister, Mary Ann Luckett.

Memorials may be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church or to the charity of choice.

Carl Burgess Fortune

Carl Burgess Fortune, 81, of Kerrville, died Monday, March 10, 2014.

Graveside services and interment were held Wednesday, March 12, at 3 p.m. in the Ussery Cemetery in Luling.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Fortune was born March 8, 1933, in Luling, the son of Raymond Carl Fortune and Mattie Lee Ussery Fortune. He married Elsie Mondragon on June 30, 1992, in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, and she survives.

A United States Navy veteran, Burgess served from Nov. 14, 1951, until Jan. 30, 1952.

He retired from the Bechtel Corporation, working as a control system engineer for 35 years, both internationally and domestically.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Beaumont, the Southeast Texas Mustang Club and the Great War Association.

In addition to his wife, Fortune is survived by two sons, one daughter and spouses, including Steven Carl and Andrea Fortune of The Woodlands; Robert Carl Fortune of Tampa, Fla., and Charmelyn Upao and Tom Harper of New York, N.Y.

Survivors also include two grandchildren; one sister, one brother and spouses, Emma and Gaston Clotiaux of Baton Rouge, La., and George Wayne and Diane Fortune of Vidor; and his mother- and father-in-law, Elena Mondragon and Artimeo Upao.

Fortune was preceded in death by his parents.

HARVEY E. BOOS

Harvey E. Boos, 87, of Comfort, died Sunday, March 2, 2014.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Gaddis United Methodist Church in Comfort.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.

Boos was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Fredericksburg, the son of Alfred Boos and Emma Heimann Boos. He married Daisy A. Flach on April 14, 1951, in Comfort, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Boos is survived by one son, Dennis Boos of California, and a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard Parker of Bulverde.

Survivors also include four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Irene, Mrs. Hugo Boos of Kerrville.

Boos was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hugo Boos, and two sisters, Vera Pfeiffer and Nora Marquardt.

Memorials may be made to the Gaddis United Methodist Church, Comfort Library, Comfort Table or to the charity of choice.

MRS. HUGO ARLITT

Mrs. Hugo Arlitt, 89, nee Vera Minnie Cornehl of Harper, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services and interment were held Friday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at Der Stadt Friedhof with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Arlitt was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Willie Friedrich Cornehl and Elfriede Marie Mosel Cornehl. She married Hugo Arlitt on Nov. 21, 1948, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Curtis Green of Harper, and one granddaughter.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Arlitt was preceded in death by a brother, Adolf Cornehl, and a sister, Nora Cornehl.

Allen Arthur Ahrens

ALLEN ARTHUR AHRENS

Allen Arthur Ahrens, 55, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, March 7, 2014, in San Antonio.

A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at the Marienkirche with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Entombment followed in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Tuesday evening, March 11.

Ahrens, a resident of the White Oak community of Gillespie County, was born Feb. 15, 1959, in Fredericksburg, the son of Arthur B. Ahrens and Vernell E. Becker Ahrens.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Notre Dame Catholic Church, volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kerrville and played in the bands, “The Ramblers” and “The Nightshift.”

Ahrens is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Tambra Ahrens of Fredericksburg; one granddaughter, and his mother, Vernell, Mrs. Arthur Ahrens, of Fredericksburg.

He is also survived by two sisters, one brother and spouses, including Arlene and Daryl Kelly and Arnell Meyer, all of Kerrville, and Alton and Barbara Ahrens of Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Jackie Kuhlmann, Arlie Lammers, Jeremy Itz, Frank Bertagnolli, Douglas Woerner and Gerald Usener.

Charles (Chuck) Achinelli

CHARLES (CHUCK) ACHINELLI

Charles (Chuck) Achinelli, 84, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, March 8, 2014.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 11, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. David Priem officiating. Visitation was held beforehand.

Private interment of the ashes is planned at a later date.

Achinelli was born March 14, 1929, in New York, N.Y., the son of Antonio Achinelli and Clara Rojas Achinelli.

When Achinelli was 10 years old, his family moved to Coconut Grove, Fla.

A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, he served from 1947-1951, and received an honorable discharge.

He then went to work in his father’s nightclub, El Torreador.

Achinelli married twice, having three sons.

In 1978, he moved to Fredericksburg, and in 1979, married Ruby Friedrich.

For many years, the Achinellis owned and operated the Palace Theater and the Fredericksburg Drive-In.

Achinelli is survived by two sons, Frank Achinelli and Charles Achinelli Jr., both of Florida; one step-daughter, Connie Prade and her husband, Doug, of New Braunfels; a step-daughter-in-law, Clairlean Friedrich of Llano; one grandchild; four step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Achinelli was preceded in death by a son, Tony Achinelli, and a step-son, Ronald (Ricky) Friedrich,

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Dorothy Goehmann Welch, 83, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in an Austin hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Friday, March 21, from 4-7 p.m., and Saturday, March 22, from 7-10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, at 10 a.m., at Schaetter Funeral Home, with interment following in the Greenwood Cemetery.

LARRY GOEHMANN

Larry Goehmann, 80, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, from 5-7 p.m.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 8:15 a.m., Friday, March 21, and from 9-10 a.m., at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church where the funeral will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Robert Klimple

ROBERT KLIMPLE

Robert Klimple, 78, of Hye, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Burdick officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday evening, March 19, at the funeral chapel.

Klimple was born May 16, 1935, in Columbus, the son of Fred Klimple and Minnie Vogel Klimple. He married Ruth Loomis on April 9, 1955, in Wharton, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Klimple is survived by one son, four daughters and spouses, including Curtis and Larie Klimple of Johnson City; Teresa Burrer, Linda and Richard Neffendorf III and Lisa and Heath Petsch, all of Fredericksburg, and Sabrina and Adrian Cook of Stonewall.

Survivors also include 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Klimple is also survived by a sister, Doris Witek of Sugarland, and two sisters-in-law,  Clara, Mrs. Alfred Klimple of Columbus, and Angeline, Mrs. Jessie Klimple of Wharton.

Along with his parents, Klimple was preceded in death by two children, Ronnie and Johnny Klimple, and three brothers and two sisters, including Alfred Klimple, Jessie Klimple, Wesley Klimple, Tina Adams and Mildred Gifford.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Shelton Neffendorf, Jared Klimple, Dayton Ziegler, Rusty Petsch, Edward Meier and Mike Robbins.

LYLA FAY HORLEN HARMON

Lyla Fay Horlen Harmon, 84, of Shawnee, Okla., and formerly of Willow City, died Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Danielle Knapp officiating.

Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Harmon was born Feb. 13, 1930, the daughter of Emil and Mae Horlen of Willow City.

A 1946 Fredericksburg High School graduate, she graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in home economics.

On Feb. 3, 1951, she married Eugene Sherman.

She taught at Comfort High School, worked for the state department and the dietary department at Boulevard Hospital in Fort Worth, and about 15 years as an assistant dietician and senior dietary supervisor at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla.

In July 1978, she married Melvin Harmon. In 1979, she retired and they returned to live on her father’s ranch at Willow City and owned and operated a small machine shop for several years.

Mrs. Harmon was a member of the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Willow City Community Club, and attended church at Willow City Emmanuel Gospel Church for many years and Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Harmon is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Cordis Slaughter of Meeker, Okla.; a son, Tommy Daryl Sherman of Raleigh, N.C., and three step-daughters, Joan, Janis and Melva Jean and their spouses.

Survivors also include four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and a sister, Jere Horlen Harper of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of choice.

MANUEL S. GONZALEZ

Manuel S. Gonzalez, 81, of Runge, died Friday, March 21, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, March 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge with interment following in the Runge Latin American Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Finch Funeral Chapel of Runge were visitation and rosary service were held Sunday evening, March 23.

Gonzalez was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Hebbronville, the son of Danaciano Gonzalez and Francisca Sedio Gonzalez. His wife, Clemencia, survives.

In addition to his wife, Gonzalez is survived by the following children and spouses: Esmeralda and Rojelio Sanchez of Fredericksburg, Manuel and Becky Gonzalez of Eden, Rudy Gonzalez of Runge, Sylvia and Andy Segura of Karnes City, Del Gonzalez of Kenedy, and Isabel and Tony Casillas of Charco.

Survivors also include 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is also survived by three siblings, Catarina Gonzalez, Ramiro Gonzalez and Santos Moreno.

Along with his parents, Gonzalez was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar Gonzalez, and a grandson, Manuel Gonzalez IV.

Memorials may be made by way of masses.

DORTHY ANN THOMAS

Dorthy Ann Ransom Thomas, 89, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, in Austin.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home, Georgetown, with interment following in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Georgetown.

Mrs. Thomas was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Richland Springs, the daughter of Sloan and Etoil Ransom. She married Ray Thomas Sr. on May 8, 1943. He preceded her in death.

She grew up at Richland Springs and San Saba before moving to Georgetown when she was a teenager.

Mrs. Thomas spent many years as the assistant to the president of Southwestern University in Georgetown.

After retiring, she worked part-time at Georgetown Candle Factory for a few more years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was a current resident of Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by one son, three daughters and spouses, including Ray and Marilyn Thomas Jr. of Georgetown; Teresa Thomas of Austin, and Cynthia and Larry Berkman and Debbie and Tony Klein, all of Fredericksburg.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Zona Ransom, of Clifton.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Thomas, and a great-grandson, Zac Thomas.

Memorials may be made to the Georgetown Church of Christ Building Fund or Children’s Ministry.

Pallbearers included Tom Pilgrim, Clay Short, Lee Johnson, Patrick Row, Chad Tyson and Joseph Klein.
