The Rev. Maurice O. Gold

The Rev. Maurice O. Gold, 85, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Casey Zesch officiating.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Born June 24, 1930, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Gold was the son of Rev. Helmuth and Johanna Wilhelmina Gold and spent his youth in Iowa and high school years in Alice.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology from Texas Lutheran College in 1951 and was accepted to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he met and married Eddy L. Lobenstein in 1952.

Later that year, he was called to serve in the Korean Conflict, where upon his return he decided to enter the ministry.

Gold earned his master of theology degree in 1961 from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, and served in the parish ministry for 47 years in the Ohio and Texas synods.

In Texas, Gold served St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin and St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

He also served Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Canton, Ohio; Emmanuel Lutheran, Warren, Ohio; Peace Lutheran, Gahanna, Ohio, and a number of congregations during interim times.

Gold is survived by two daughters, including Pamela Gold and her husband, Bill Bennett, of Tucson, Arizona, and Fredericksburg, and Kristi Quiros and her husband, Ron, of Seguin; a son-in-law, Tom Edwards of Quito, Ecuador, and six grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Joan Diemer and her husband, Gerhard, of Fredericksburg, and Jean Menking, of Alice.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gold was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gold Edwards, and a brother, the Rev. Dr. Victor Gold.
