
AMES SHELDON (MICKEY) BELL
Ames Sheldon (Mickey) Bell, 104, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, April 11, 2015.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, at the Family Chapel in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ann Hoch officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Tuesday morning before the service.
Bell was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Dennison Ohio, the son of James Ralph Bell and Georgia Carpenter Bell. He married Lois Elizabeth Pace on Dec. 15, 1934, in Fort Stockton. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2012.
As a child, Bell moved with his parents and siblings to Oklahoma and then later, in 1926, to Fort Stockton.
A Fort Stockton High School graduate, Bell attended the University of Texas where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
After attending UT, for a period of time during the Depression, Bell was the only member of his family who was employed, making him the family’s sole support.
Eventually, he became employed with Humble Oil and Refining Co. in its West Texas division.
During that time, the Bells lived in Crane, Sand Hills and Odessa, before moving to Fredericksburg in 1978.
After moving to Fredericksburg, he was semi-active selling real estate, was a member of the Fredericksburg Lions Club, Memorial Presbyterian Church, drove for the Hill Country Community Needs Council and helped at the Fredericksburg Food Pantry.
The Bells moved to San Antonio in 2007.
Bell is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, including Michael and Trudy Bell of San Antonio; Stephen and Marion Bell of Suahuarita, Arizona, and Kenneth and Susan Bell of New Braunfels, and a daughter-in-law, Marion Dewar Bell of San Antonio.
Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one brother, Robert Byram Bell of New Mexico.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, Presbyterian Children’s Home or to the charity of choice.
