Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl

Mrs. Alvin (Jake) Pehl, 101, nee Anita A. Steitle of Fredericksburg and formerly of the Luckenbach community, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Interment followed in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service, led by Deacon Patrick Klein, were held Monday evening, Jan. 19.

Mrs. Pehl was born April 7, 1913, in San Antonio, the daughter of Arnold Richard Steitle and Ottilie Gold Steitle. She married Alvin Alfons (Jake) Pehl on Aug. 9, 1933, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1989.

Mrs. Pehl is survived by one daughter, four sons and spouses, including Adeline, Mrs. Delton Kozielski of Fredericksburg; Wilburn Pehl and Jerry and Bernadette Pehl, all of the Luckenbach community; Kenton and Barbara Pehl of Dickinson, and Alvin and Mary Ellis Pehl of Harper.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two step great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter.

She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Posey, Mrs. Marvin Steitle of San Antonio.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pehl was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lynda Kozielski; a son-in-law, Delton Kozielski; two sisters, Frieda, Mrs. Paul Barron, and Dora, Mrs. Elgin Stolle, and five brothers, including Edwin Steitle, Marvin Steitle, Roy Steitle, Edgar Steitle and Gilbert Steitle.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Joseph’s Halle Restoration Fund, or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Ronald Kozielski, Jym Chenault, Brian Pehl, Troy Pehl, Stephen Pehl and Ross Pehl.
