WILLIAM JOSEPH BUTLER

William Joseph Butler, 79, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Graveside services and interment of the cremains with honors to be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Butler was born March 10, 1934, in Manchester, Conn., the son of Joseph O. Butler and Elizabeth Wodal Butler. He married Sybil Birchard on Oct. 24, 1953, in Glastonbury, Conn, and she survives.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Butler served from August 1953 to August 1956, and was a life member of DAV Chapter 167.

He worked as a truck driver for freight companies.

In addition to his wife, Butler is survived by two daughters, one son and spouses, including Linda and Steven Gilliland, of Escondido, CA; Joseph and Theresa Butler, St. Genevieve, Mo., and Eileen Runnels and Bruce Vaught of Tomball.

Survivors also include two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
