FREDERICK H. SAENGER

 

Frederick H. Saenger, 92, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Bernice Basse was the organist.

Entombment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation was held Sunday evening, May 19.

Saenger was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Fredericksburg, the son of Felix F. Saenger and Ella Meckel Saenger. He married Nelda Hilda Klier on Oct. 20, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2012.

A World War II veteran, Saenger served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a gunnery instructor on B-29s.

For many years, he worked at Saenger Menswear, as well as for Mooney Aircraft and briefly with the Texas Department of Transportation.

Saenger played clarinet and saxophone with several German polka bands in town, and was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

Saenger is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Kristi Saenger of Fredericksburg and Roy and Share Saenger of Hye; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors also include a sister, Dorothy Cornehl of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his wife and parents, Saenger was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Saenger.

Memorials may be made to the Golden Hub, the Hill Country Community Needs Council or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included David Jung, Wayne Klier, Larry Heiner, Joey Straube, Jay Luckenbach and Keith Weinheimer.
