Michael Zenner, 63, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 2, from 4-6 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 7-10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services and interment with military honors will follow Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Golden Hub or to the charity of choice.

Vera Scrimsher, 90, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Hobbs, N.M., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Joshua Channing (Josh) Kraus

JOSHUA KRAUS

Joshua Channing (Josh) Kraus, 25, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Wednesday evening, Aug. 28.

Kraus was born July 18, 1988, in Fredericksburg, the son of Michael James Kraus and Gay Nell Reeves Kraus.

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Gay Kraus of Fredericksburg; three brothers and one sister, including Jared Kraus of New Braunfels; Justin Kraus, Jacquelynn Kraus and Jordan Kraus, all of Fredericksburg.

He is also survived by his grandparents, Ima Jane (Imy) Schlueter Kraus of Fredericksburg, and William R. and Phyliss Reeves of Weatherford.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund, Association for Retarded Citizens or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Jared Kraus, James Kraus, Matt Kordzik, Ben Rumbaugh, Kirby Davis, Neil Jung, Porfie Diaz Jr. and Jonathan Davis.

Honorary pallbearer was William R. Reeves Jr.

Francis Charles Heep

Francis Charles Heep, 71, of Dallas and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with interment following in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or to the charity of choice.

Schaetter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Werner Leonard Franz

WERNER FRANZ

Werner Leonard Franz, 91, of the Luckenbach community of Gillespie County, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. David Priem officiating.

Interment followed at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning at the funeral chapel.

Franz was born Sept. 8, 1921, at Luckenbach, the son of Leonard Franz and Hulda Eckhardt Franz. He married Alberta C. Manske on Jan. 17, 1948, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2009.

A farmer and rancher his entire life, Franz was also a U.S. Navy veteran. He served from Oct. 18, 1944, to June 11, 1946, and was discharged with the rank of Coxswain. He received numerous awards and citations for his service.

Franz is survived by one daughter, two sons and spouses, including Bertram (Bert) and Wanda Franz of Fredericksburg, and Connie and Ralph Breed and Keenan and Lorie Franz, all of Austin.

Survivors also include six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Franz was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Franz, and three sisters, including Lorina Pehl, Emma Mae Meyer and Louisa Pfeiffer.

Memorials may be made to the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department, Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Glenn Breed, Eric Franz, Kristina Franz, Willie Pfeiffer, Kenny Pahl, Jerry Pehl, Charles Krieger and Kenneth Meyer. 

Honorary pallbearers were Rhonda Kosub, Andrea Sanford, Lindsey Franz, Korbin Cox, Danielle Cox, Lynn Ann Kosub, Leah Kosub and Aubrey San Ford.

Michael Zenner, 63, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. James Engelmann officiating.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, that afternoon.

Zenner was born March 13, 1950, in Fredericksburg, the son of John W. Zenner and Thekla Rischner Zenner.

Survivors include a daughter, Jameye J. Zenner of Blanco; a step-daughter and spouse, Stephanie and Charlie Lile of Corpus Christi; a step-son and spouse, Nathan and Mini Terres of California, and four grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Barbara Zenner of Fredericksburg, and a sister-in-law, Barbara, Mrs. Dennis Zenner of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his parents, Zenner was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Zenner.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Golden Hub or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Kermit Klein, Daniel Zenner, Lanzo Usener, John Brooke, Charlie Lile and William Holmes.

Clarence Frank (Spike) Zatopek, 95, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Heritage Place.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, from 4-6 p.m., and Friday, Sept. 13, from 7-8:15 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 8:15 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, and from 9-10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church where the funeral will begin at 10 a.m.

Graveside services with military honors and interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Rachel Ruth Witt

Rachel Ruth Witt, 87, nee Potts, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Beckmann Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Witt was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Harrisburg, Ill., the daughter of Joseph Potts and Carrie Theodocia Haynes Potts. She married Harry Arthur Witt in Chicago Ill. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Witt is survived by three daughters, one son and spouses, including Gloria Jean and Joseph McSparin of Fredericksburg; Janice Lee and Chuck Vostry of San Antonio; Marilyn Witt of Fredericksburg, and Harry Arnold Witt of New Orleans, La.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Witt was preceded in death by two sons, James Joseph Witt and Albert Frederick Witt; one daughter, Carol Lynn Witt; three brothers, Joseph Willis Potts, James Carr and George Carr, and three sisters, Nette Gloria Alderette, Aline Lovey Qualls and Flo Carr.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Charles Weinheimer, 90, nee Lorine Danz of Stonewall, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with interment following in the Stonewall Community Cemetery.

BRENT WALKUP

Brent David Walkup, 29, of Mason, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

Cremation was planned afterward.

Visitation was held Monday evening, Sept. 1, at the funeral chapel.

Walkup was born Sept. 7, 1983, in Baytown, the son of Jerry Walkup and Peggy Jasek Walkup.

A graduate of PCAL Christian Academy, Walkup joined the United States Air Force in 2002 and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was discharged in 2007.

He worked for Pioneer Natural Resources as a foreman.

Survivors include his father, Jerry Walkup, and his wife, Jeanette, of Kenefick; his mother, Peggy Jackson and her husband, Clarence (Nugget), of Dayton; a grandmother, Louise Shaw of Kenefick; grandfather, Edward Jasek of Crosby, and a sister, Rhonda Gayle Walkup of Conroe.

Walkup was preceded in death by a grandmother, Helen Jasek, and his step-father, Sam Marr.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Honorary pallbearers included Troy Woody, Dani Taylor, John Bratcher, Garrad Poole, Jason Cogar, Jason Wolfman, Joshua Archibald, Joseph Hickman, Joshua Eaton, Ryan Swindler, James Lisenbe, Matthue Smith, Dwaine Woodard, Raymond Polka Jr., Charles Carrithers and Zach West.

VERA SCRIMSHER

Vera Scrimsher, 90, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Hobbs, N.M., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Dave White officiating.

 Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Ms. Scrimsher was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Nowata, Okla., the daughter of Charles Scrimsher and Nancy Pruitt Scrimsher.

For many years, she worked as a cashier at a grocery store.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davis of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Denny Scrimsher of Verden, Okla.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scrimsher was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Fredericksburg or to the charity of choice.

Francis Charles Heep, 71, of Dallas and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and Donna Durst, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Friday evening, Aug. 30.

Heep was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Fredericksburg, the son of Francis Xavier Heep and Gladys Edna Seelig Heep.

Survivors include one daughter, Becky McCaskill, and two sons and spouses, David and Vivian Heep and Jeffrey and Jenae Heep, all of Mississippi, and nine grandchildren.

He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Seelig Heep of Fredericksburg; four sisters, two brothers and spouses, including Gerald Heep of Seguin; Patrick William and Frances Heep of Navasota; Deborah and Ken Perkins of Midland; Theresa Marie Heep of Kennedy; Lisa and Ted Matthews of Cedar Park, and Regina and Lynn Shipley of San Angelo.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Sandy, Mrs. Daniel (Danny) Heep, of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his father, Heep was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel (Danny) Heep and Anthony Wayne (Tony) Heep.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Sean Heep, Dean Heep, Aaron Heep, Joey Matthews, Eddie Matthews, Jordan Heep and Gerrad Heep.

Pearl Wilhelmina Schwethelm Burkett, 97, of Kerrville, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kerrville.

Interment at Garden of Memories will be held beforehand on Friday, Sept. 13.

Memorials may be made to the Hill Country Youth Ranch or to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

John J. Lehman

John J. Lehman, 94, of Fredericksburg and formerly of La Grange, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Lehman was born May 10, 1919, in Bradford, Penn., the son of George Joseph Lehman and Theresa Ledden Lehman. He married Margaret Bach on May 5, 1945. She preceded him in death.

During World War II, Lehman was a lieutenant in the United States Navy.

He was a chemical engineer and retired as vice-president of sales with Koch Industries.

He is survived by two daughters, two sons and spouses, including Elizabeth and Al Napier and Jeff and Lori Lehman, all of Fredericksburg; Jim Lehman of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kathi and Kelly Toombs of Prairie Village, Kan.; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Lehman was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Nelson, and a granddaughter, Jenny Lehman.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

Pearl Viola Smith Land, 85, of Katy and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4-9 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo, San Antonio, Texas 78215.

Interment will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Following the interment, a memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva in San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to Hearing Loss Association of San Antonio, 515 Edgebrook Lane, San Antonio, Texas  78213.
