Mrs. Frank A. Schmidt Sr.

MRS. FRANK A. SCHMIDT SR.

Mrs. Frank A. Schmidt Sr., 102, nee Marie H. Moritz of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Sunday evening, Dec. 28.

Mrs. Schmidt was born July 27, 1912, at Hye, Blanco County, the daughter of Joseph Moritz and Amalia Baumann Moritz. She married Frank A. Schmidt Sr. on Aug. 9, 1930, at St. Mary’s. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, including Juanita Marie Wehmeyer and her husband, Robert E., of Fort Worth, and Betty Ann Heineman, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a daughter-in-law, Frances, Mrs. Frank J. Schmidt Jr.

Survivors also include 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jay Robert Schmidt and Stephen Wehmeyer; a son, Lt. Col. (ret.) Frank J. Schmidt Jr.; three sisters and three brothers, including Robert Moritz, Lewis Moritz, Jimmy Moritz, Rosie Howard, GuGu McKay and Elsie Moritz.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Parish Capital Campaign, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospital or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Robert Wehmeyer Jr., Thomas Wehmeyer, Michael Wehmeyer, John Heineman, Marcus Wehmeyer and Joe Schmidt.

James Jay (Jim) Miller

JAMES JAY 'JIM' MILLER

James Jay (Jim) Miller, 73, of San Antonio and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fredericksburg with Bishop Michael Pfeiffer officiating.

Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist and Tricia Eilers, the vocalist.

Graveside services and interment followed on Monday, Jan. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and vigil/rosary services were held Friday evening, Jan. 2.

Miller was born March 25, 1941, in Fredericksburg, the son of Warren Frederick Miller and Elenora Klein Miller. He married Mary Nell St. John who preceded him in death. On June 24, 2000, he married Cheryl Plumb, in Fort Worth, and she survives.

A St. Mary’s High School graduate, Miller served in the United States Air Force from Jan. 19, 1960, to Jan. 17, 1964, and was discharged as an airman first class.

In addition to his wife, Miller is survived by their children and spouses, Colby and Julie Monzingo of Katy, and Katherine and Mike Delafuente of San Antonio, and six grandchildren.

Survivors also include his mother, Elenora, Mrs. Warren F. Miller of Fredericksburg; mothers-in-law, Carolyn Carter of San Antonio and Joyce Plumb of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Joy Sweeney of Fort Worth, and brother-in-law, Bill Plumb of Paris, Texas.

Miller was preceded in death by his father, Warren F. Miller; his first wife, Mary Nell St. John Miller; one sister, Dorothy Cox, and two brothers, Frederick Miller and John Thomas Miller.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Pablo Bustamante, Robert Allen, Homer Fowler and Scott Brundridge.

Alton Immel was an honorary pallbearer.

James T. (Jim) McMahon

JAMES T. 'JIM' McMAHON

James T. (Jim) McMahon, 85, of Harper, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Matthews officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Sunday evening, Jan. 4.

McMahon was born March 27, 1929, in Medina, the son of William McMahon and Minnie Lee Turner McMahon. He married Nila Mae Maner on June 12, 1955, in Fredericksburg. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2006.

A 1952 graduate of Texas A&M University, McMahon then served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a food inspector for the Army in Europe.

He was very active in civic and community affairs, and was commissioner for Gillespie County Precinct No. 2 for many years; served on the Greenwood Cemetery board, Hill Country Memorial Hospital board, Harper United Methodist Church, Gillespie County Youth Livestock Show Association, Harper Historical Society, Hill Country District Livestock Show Committee and Harper Lions Club.

He was also active with the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge, Harper Community Park Board, Harper Volunteer Fire Department and the Harper Independent School District board of trustees.

McMahon is survived by two sons, one daughter and spouses, including Kevin and Terra McMahon, of Coleman, and Michael and Susan McMahon and Melanie and Bartley Parker, all of Harper; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

McMahon was preceded in death by his wife and parents; his adoptive parents, Roy and Dorothy Dunsmore; an infant daughter; a brother, William (Bill) McMahon, and five sisters, including Mary Chisum, Minnie Lee (Sang) Love, Anna Merle Hartsfield, Ida Mae Hartsfield and Eugenia (Genie) Woods.

Memorials may be made to the Harper Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Harper United Methodist Church or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Ryan McMahon, Patrick McMahon, Zachary McMahon, Tate Parker, Mitchell Maner, Jake Acker, Paige Parker, Beth McMahon and Heather McMahon.

Harold Albert Kusenberger

HAROLD ALBERT KUSENBERGER

Harold Albert Kusenberger, 89, of Stonewall, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall with the Rev. Scott Janysek and Deacon Ed Ferguson officiating. DeAnn Hampton was the organist and Lottie Demel, the vocalist.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed in the Stonewall Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Sunday evening, Jan. 4.

Kusenberger was born April 17, 1925, in Gillespie County, the son of Alfred Kusenberger and Aminda Henke Kusenberger. He married Joanne Weinheimer on Aug. 5, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Kusenberger is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, including Carla and Dennis Gale, Diane and David Strosser and Annette and Dan O’Loughlin, all of Stonewall.

Survivors also include nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Andrew Nielsen.

Kusenberger was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a sister, Leola Nielsen.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Dennis Gale, David Strosser, Dan O’Loughlin, Patrick O’Loughlin, Kevin O’Loughlin, Garrett Strosser, Jason Gale, Nathan Gale and Clinton Strosser.

Jeremiah Gale was an honorary pallbearer.

Janet Alma Smith, 78, nee Schmidt, of San Marcos, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Walter and Ola Schmidt. She married Joe Smith who preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters and one son, including Stephanie Serrano and Kristy Cruz, both of San Marcos; Joni Billerbeck, Cedar Park, and Russell Putman, Lockhart.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie; one granddaughter, Gisela, and one grandson, Brandon.

Mrs. Willy H. Mueller Sr., 98, nee Lillie Margaret Klein of Stonewall, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Priem officiating. Bernice Basse was the organist.

Interment followed in the Stonewall Community Cemetery in Stonewall.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Mrs. Mueller was born Sept. 17, 1916, at Petersburg, the daughter of Ernst W. Klein and Sophie M. Bernhard Klein. She married Willy Heinrich Mueller Sr. on Sept. 29, 1934, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1991.

She is survived by one daughter, Ginger Orn, of Lockhart, and one son, Willy Mueller Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Crosby.

Survivors also include nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mueller was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. Clifford Staats; two grandsons, Randy Staats and Dale Orn; three brothers and three sisters, Edwin Klein, Marvin Klein and Hugo Klein; Cora, Mrs. Erwin Reeh; Edna, Mrs. Albert Mueller, and Ida, Mrs. Helmuth Crenwelge.

Memorials may be made to the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Kevin Orn, Carl Creasy, Ricky Staats, Randy Warbritton, Gilbert Ferrales and Ty Warbritton.

Joyce Emilena Holtzer Arlt

Joyce Emilena Holtzer Arlt, 77, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and formerly of Castell, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Graveside services and interment of the ashes in the Castell Methodist Church Cemetery is planned in the coming months.

Mrs. Arlt was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Austin, and was the adopted daughter of Emil Holtzer and Lena Hoffmann Holtzer of Castell. She married William Theodore Otto (Sonny) Arlt in Fredericksburg on Nov. 5, 1955. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1992.

She attended the Castell School until fifth grade and then finished her education in Llano where she graduated from Llano High School in 1955.

She moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado on April 1, 2012. 

Mrs. Arlt is survived by one son, Danny Ray Arlt, of Texas, and a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Brian Schuchardt of Bayfield, Colorado, and six grandchildren.

Clarence Lloyd Nixon, 96, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 5-7 p.m., and Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 7-9:45 a.m.

A rosary service will begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday Jan. 20, at the funeral chapel.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 9:45 a.m., Wednesday Jan. 21.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Jim Traggis

MRS. JIM TRAGGIS

Mrs. Jim Traggis, 92, nee Alice Pawlakos of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with Mary Katherine Bakiris and Johnny Nicholas officiating.

Mrs. Traggis was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of John Pawlakos and Estella Poulakos Pawlakos. She married Jim Traggis on Nov. 25, 1957, in Westerly, Rhode Island. He preceded her in death.

In the 1940’s, Mrs. Traggis worked for Squibb Pharmaceuticals where she worked her way up to the position of executive secretary.

After their marriage, the Traggises lived in Glen Cove, New York, until relocating to Hartford, Wisconsin, where he was a pilot for the Milwaukee Braves.

When the Braves moved to Atlanta, he declined an offer to relocate and the couple formed Traggis Aviation shortly thereafter.

In the early 1980’s, they moved to the Los Angeles area and went into partnership with her sister, Irene, forming LA World Travel.

The Traggises moved to Fredericksburg in the mid-1980’s where they operated LA World Travel SW, leading trips to Greece each year. She also worked at Hill Top Café where she created Greek dishes and did bookkeeping.

Mrs. Traggis is survived by two nephews and spouses and seven nieces, including Johnny and Brenda Nicholas, of Doss; George and Joan Nicholas, Paweatuk, Connecticut; Iris Messina, Los Angeles, California; Daphne Margeotes, Bloomingfield, New Jersey; Estelle Anderson, West Milford, New Jersey; Elayne Brown, Tampa, Florida; Maria Pawlakos, Walnut Creek, California; Alice Fagundes, Concord, California and Dory Pawlakos.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Traggis was preceded in death by five siblings, including George, Maria, Irene, Angela and Olga (Ollie).

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
