Mrs. Alton Deike, 75, nee Florine Fay (Renie) Luedke of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014.

Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the charity of choice.

Maria M. Cortez

Maria M. Cortez, 67, of Ozona, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Kerbow Funeral Home Chapel in Sonora with interment following in the Sonora Cemetery.

Mrs. Cortez is survived  by three sons and six daughters, including Julio Galindo of San Angelo; Andrew Cortez, John Manuel Mendez and Elsa Hernandez, all of Fredericksburg; Sylvia Galindo and Dianna Reza, both of Kerrville; Erma Guzman and Irene Espinosa, both of Fort Worth, and Sandra Hernandez of Ennis.

She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, including Roberto Mendez, Arnoldo Mendez and Juanita Herrera, all of Sonora, and Lydia Hernandez of Fort Worth.

MRS. GUADALUPE ALBITER

Mrs. Guadalupe Albiter, 59, nee Yolanda Medina of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, in a San Antonio hospital.

A funeral mass was celebrated Thursday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a rosary service led by Deacon Francisco De La Torre were held Wednesday evening, Oct. 29.

Mrs. Albiter was born Sept. 14, 1955, in Mexico, the daughter of Mateo and Hermenejida Bravo Medina. She married Guadalupe Albiter who survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Albiter is survived by one son, Emilio Albiter of San Antonio, and two grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Silvia and Joel Albiter and Maria and Zacarias Albiter, all of Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the charity of choice.

James Henry (Jim) George, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m.-12 noon, at Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Private interment is planned.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice or to Heart to Heart Hospice, 12929 Gulf Freeway, #300, Houston, TX 77034.

 

ROBERT (BOB) OBERHELMAN

Robert (Bob) Oberhelman, 87, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.

A rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 17, at the Marienkirche, followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Parish Capital Campaign, the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

 

JAMES (JIMMY) METZGER

James (Jimmy) Metzger, 82, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, from 4-7:30 p.m. and on Friday, Nov. 7 from 7:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel.

 Vigil and rosary services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel. A St. Joseph’s Society Rosary will follow.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

 Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund, St. Joseph Halle Restoration, Chris Staats Memorial Scholarship Fund or any local charity or scholarship fund.

Mrs. Floyd Ellison, 87, nee Flora Elizabeth (Libby) Wells of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 7, from 5-8 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 4-6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church in Edna.

Memorials may be made to Lamb’s Tale Ministries, Heritage School, Fredericksburg Christian School or Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

 

MRS. JAMES EDWARD CHANEY

Mrs. James Edward Chaney, 78, nee Betty Jean Waite of Georgetown and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at St. David’s Medical Center.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home or to the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Max L. Heath Jr., 87, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehab Center.

Fernando Torres Moreno, 68, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Moreno was born Dec. 17, 1945, in Mexico, the son of Jesus and Feliciana Moreno Torres. He was employed at Dutchman’s Market.

Survivors include his wife, Blanca Lopez; one son and daughter-in-law, Francisco and Araceli Torres, and a daughter, Marisa Torres, all of Fredericksburg.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, six brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. William Richard Hahn Jr.

Mrs. William Richard Hahn Jr., 89, nee Jean Althaus of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Foster officiating.

Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Hahn was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Bexar County, the daughter of Willie E. Althaus and Grace Haley Althaus. She married William Hahn Jr. who preceded her in death.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hahn was preceded in death by a son, William R. Hahn III, and one brother, William (Bill) Althaus.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Gary Holloway, Daryl Holloway, Sam Klaerner, Larry Althaus, Ronnie Althaus and Joe Haley.

MRS. CLIFTON E. FRANTZEN

Mrs. Clifton E. Frantzen, 94, nee Adela Bertha Louise Borchers, of Boerne, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Riverview Care in Boerne.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne with interment following in the Comfort Cemetery.

Visitation was held Friday evening, Nov. 7, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Frantzen was born July 28, 1920, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Louis and Bertha Borchers. She married Clifton E. Frantzen who preceded her in death.

A 1938 Fredericksburg High School graduate, Mrs. Frantzen attended Santa Rosa Hospital School of Nursing in San Antonio, graduating in 1942.

A U.S. Army veteran, she served overseas in the 34th Evacuation Hospital as a first lieutenant from Dec. 1, 1942, until Dec. 10, 1945, and received recognition for her service.

Mrs. Frantzen was active in Hermann Sons, the Agriculture Heritage Center and the Kendall County Fair Association. She worked at Hilltop Nursing and then Town and Country Nursing Home until she retired.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, including Paul W. and Bonnie Sue Frantzen of Crocker, Missouri, and Carl A. and Bonnie Frantzen of Boerne; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Frantzen was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hailey M. Frantzen, and six sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Roy Jung, 77, nee Rosalie Margarita Schumplet of San Antonio, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014.

Her body will lie in state in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home until 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, and from 10-11 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall with a mass of resurrection at 11 a.m. in the church.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Stonewall Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, from 3-6 p.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home. Rosary services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to the Stonewall Cemetery Association.

Lilyan LaBauve Jenkins, 102, of Fredericksburg died on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, in the Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Sept. 30, 1912, in New Iberia, Louisiana.

She is survived by a daughter and spouse, Arlene and George Tilley of Fredericksburg.

Other survivors include three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Yvonne Watson, and four brothers, Henry LaBauve, John LaBauve, Roland LaBauve and Donald LaBauve.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home.

Philip N. (Phil) Tilden Sr.

PHILIP N. 'PHIL' TILDEN SR.

Philip N. (Phil) Tilden Sr., 93, of Kerrville, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m., at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville with Dr. Melburn Hardin officiating.

Private burial was held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Tilden, a retired lieutenant colonel chaplain with the U.S. Army, was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Assam, India, the son of missionary parents. His wife, Doris, preceded him in death. They had been married 46 years.

He was a graduate of Stanford University, Radio and Television Institute and Rio Hondo Police Academy. He was a licensed marriage and family child therapist.

Tilden was a pastor of churches in California and Texas and was the founding pastor of the Sunrise Baptist Church in Kerrville where he was pastor for seven years.

His latest pastorate was the First Christian Church in Fredericksburg.

He served on active duty in the U.S. Army as chaplain and was a chaplain at the Kerrville Veterans Administration Hospital for 16 years.

Tilden also worked for Heart of the Hills Hospice, owned and operated a counseling office in Kerrville, and was counselor for the 3 H Boys Ranch for two years.

He is survived by five children, including Philip Tilden Jr. and his wife, Lori; Daniel Tilden, Robert Young, Francy Neal and Juanita Alfaro; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Commission to Every Nation or First Christian Church of Fredericksburg.

Leslie Linden Phillips Jr.

LESLIE LINDEN PHILLIPS JR.

Leslie Linden Phillips Jr., 86, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service is being held today, Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church with the Rev. D.G. McCoury officiating.

Phillips was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Blanco County, the son of Leslie Linden Phillips Sr. and Bessie Lee Hill Phillips. He married June Wienecke on Oct. 24, 1950, and she survives.

After graduating from Harper High School, Phillips served for two years in the U.S. Army, from 1950-1951, during the Korean conflict.

He attended San Antonio Junior College, later transferring to Texas A&M University, where he earned his bachelor of education degree in 1957.

Phillips taught one year in San Antonio, followed by two years working in retail in Odessa.

He brought his family to Fredericksburg in 1960, when he began teaching distributive education at Fredericksburg High School. He subsequently earned his counselor’s certificate from the University of Texas in 1964.

He became counselor at FHS, serving for 27 years and helping guide generations of high school students. For many years, he drove the school bus, both regular routes and often taking the football teams to away games.

From 1987-1994, he worked part time as counselor at Harper High School.

Phillips was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Fredericksburg Jaycees, and a licensed real estate agent.

In addition to his wife, Phillips is survived by children Duane and Eileen Phillips, Vickie Phillips, Valerie Phillips, Dawn and Phil Houseal, and Wade and Sharon Phillips; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Phillips was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Madeline Willmann Bush and Tommye Everett; one brother, Weldon Phillips; one daughter, Gwyn Phillips Morgan; and one granddaughter, Sierra Phillips-Hess.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

Chief Master Sgt. Hilmar A. (Hal) Lang Jr. (U.S. Air Force, ret.), 89, of Stonewall, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Fredericksburg.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 5-8 p.m.

Graveside services with military honors accorded by the United States Air Force, and interment will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department, Hill Country Memorial Hospital or to the charity of choice.

 

 

MRS. HERBERT (BOYCE) HOFFMANN

Mrs. Herbert (Boyce) Hoffmann, 78, nee Norma Eckhardt of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, from 4-7 p.m.

The body will lie in state at Schaetter Funeral Home until 8:15 a.m., Friday, Dec. 12, and from 9-10 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church where the funeral will begin at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at Der Stadt Friedhof.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Bethany Lutheran Church or to the charity of choice.

Nolan Dave Oestreich

Nolan Dave Oestreich, 86, of Dallas, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.

Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at 2 p.m., at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Oestreich was born April 3, 1928, in Fredericksburg, the son of Wilhelm Oswald Oestreich and Effie Oestreich.

A 1945 graduate of Fredericksburg High School, he immediately joined the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II until being discharged in 1948.

After serving in the Air Force, Oestreich pursued a career as an accountant, working for various companies in San Antonio until 1981 when he relocated to Dallas where he worked for Rupe Investment until retirement in 2008 at the age of 80 years.

During his accounting career, Oestreich served on numerous business boards associated with the companies he worked for.

Oestreich is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ella Mae; sons, Carl Bierschwale and David Oestreich, both of San Antonio, and John Oestreich and Kenneth Oestreich, both of Dallas; daughters-in-law; 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Oestreich was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Oestreich, and sister, Myrtle Oestreich.
