
FRANCES GAREY STEIN
Frances Garey Stein, 91, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Uvalde, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.
Graveside services and interment were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Uvalde Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Fahrenthold officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rushing Estes Knowles Funeral Home, Uvalde.
Mrs. Stein was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Denton, Montana, the daughter of Sanford H. Garey and Ruth Ann More Garey. She married Edward J. Stein who preceded her in death.
Over the years, she worked at the El Progresso Library and then the draft board (until it was dissolved) and finally, the Soil Conservation Service from which she retired at age 65.
Mrs. Stein was past Worthy Matron and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and past president of Uvalde AARP.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kaye Sawyer-Morse and her husband, Jon, of Fredericksburg; one grandson, and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stein was preceded in death by three brothers, including Sanford Edwin Garey, Alfred Henry Garey and James (Jimmie) Garey.
