Randall Conway (Randy) Burkey

Randall Conway (Randy) Burkey, 91, of Doss and formerly of San Antonio, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Doss, with the Reverends Mark A. Ward and Jim Holt officiating. Shirley Keyser was the organist and Janice Friedrich, vocalist.

Graveside services with military honors and interment followed at the church cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Monday evening, Oct. 12.

Burkey was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of George Randall Burkey and Mary Ellen Purdum Burkey. He married Jacqueline (Jackie) Rebholz on Jan. 12, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1979.

He married Audelle Woerner on April 10, 1982, in Comfort, and she survives.

For 42 years, Burkey owned and operated his own business, Randall Burkey Company in Boerne.

He was also a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving from April 21, 1943, to Nov. 19, 1945.

In addition to his wife, Burkey is survived by their children and spouses: Ronald and Edith Burkey of Boerne; Janice and Rev. Jim Holt, Comfort; Robert and Molly Burkey, San Antonio; Troy Hagel, New Braunfels; Kim and Major Self, Corpus Christi, and Lori and Bill Pieratt, College Station.

Survivors also include 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Burkey was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a sister, Betty Patton.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Doss Volunteer Fire Department, Wounded Warriors or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Russell Burkey, Clark Burkey, Daniel Holt, Dr. Jeff Holt, Connor Pieratt, Tommy Holt and Duane Nagel.

Honorary pallbearers were Royce Herbort, Pat Jung, Denver Mixon, Mike Eckert and Stanley Ernst.
