John Edgar Bynum

John Edgar Bynum, 80, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, May 11, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating.

Visitation was held beforehand.

Private disposition of the cremains is planned at a later date.

Bynum was born Dec. 12, 1934, in Mason, the son of George Edgar Bynum and Marie Odessa Solomon Bynum. He married Evelyn Norman on July 8, 1978, in San Antonio, and she survives.

Bynum was a United States Army veteran, serving from May 21, 1957, to Aug. 6, 1962.

He worked in the maintenance department of the Fredericksburg Independent School District.

In addition to his wife, Bynum is survived by two daughters, two sons and spouses, including Reba J. Lynn and Kenneth D. Bynum, both of Fredericksburg; Patricia and Cecil Carlisle of La Vernia, and Thomas and Tabitha Bynum of McAllen.

Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Art Shafer of Fredericksburg.

Bynum was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Dorothy Shafer.
