William R. (Bill) Nelson

William R. (Bill) Nelson, 89, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, April 6, 2015.

No services are scheduled.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Nelson was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Longmont, Colorado, the son of Harry Nelson and Stella Camp Nelson. He married Billie Jo Chandler on Dec. 15, 1949, in Beverly Hills, California. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2012.

He received his master’s degree from Trinity University, and was also a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

After military service, Nelson worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and then switched careers to the education field.

He taught history and English, was a middle school administrator and finally served as the personnel director of the North East Independent School District in San Antonio.

Nelson is survived by two daughters, Ann Elizabeth Nelson of Fredericksburg, and Kay Ellen Caldwell and her husband, Bobby, of Boerne; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
