Laura Giles Dreiss Bradfield, 99, of Comfort, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Comfort.
Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home of Comfort.
Mrs. Bradfield was born May 22, 1915, in San Antonio, the daughter of Paul Moreau Dreiss Sr. and Beatrice Giles Dreiss. She married Thomas Edward Bradfield on April 12, 1939, in San Antonio. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Bradfield was instrumental in the founding of the Comfort Public Library. She was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church, and for nearly 50 years, wrote a weekly newspaper column, “Persimmon Hill Ramblings,” for the Comfort News.
Mrs. Bradfield is survived by three daughters, two sons and spouses, including Amy Bradfield, Thomas G. and Kathy Bradfield, Bebe and Allen Hammock, Betty K. Poyo and Mark Belin, and Edward and Maryberry Bradfield.
Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Amy Scott; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Milby Dreiss, Betty Jane Bradfield, Mary Ellen Petree, Patricia and Vince Giardina and William J. and Wanda Bradfield.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bradfield was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, including Josephine Hooks, Paul M. Dreiss Jr., Alfred (Giles) Dreiss and Katherine Dreiss, and her grandparents, Alfred and Annie Giles.
Memorials may be made to the Comfort Public Library, St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospital or to the charity of choice, especially those involving birds or nature.
