
JOHANNA WENDEL
Johanna Wendel, 98, nee Itz, of Harper, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at St. James Lutheran Church in Harper with the Rev. Scott Hofmann officiating.
Interment followed in the Harper Community Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Thursday evening, Dec. 11.
Mrs. Wendel was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Gillespie County, the daughter of Otto Itz and Ida Oehler Itz. She married Victor A. Wendel on June 26, 1935. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1994.
She began her education at the Palo Alto School and completed it at the Reservation School at Harper.
Her family joined St. James Lutheran Church where she participated in the various church programs over the years.
She also supported the activities in which her sons participated, including the Harper 4-H Club, Harper FFA, Harper ISD Parent Teacher Association and Harper School sports.
Mrs. Wendel is survived by two sons, Carlton Wendel and his wife, Jeannine, of Denton, and Lloyd Wendel of Harper; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include a sister, Ruth Bode of Harper; a brother, LeRoy Itz of Austin, and a sister-in-law, Adela Wendel of Kerrville.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wendel was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Itz, and two sisters, Bessie Wienecke and Norma Bernhard.
Memorials may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the charity of choice.
Pallbearers included Justin Wendel, Brett Dillen, Chase Dillen, Melissa Dillen, Kris Dillen, Bob Moran, Joe Frantzen and Didi Wendel.
