
CURTIS KUHLMANN
Curtis Kuhlmann, 85, of Mason, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.
Graveside services with military honors and interment were held Monday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. at Gooch Cemetery in Mason with Roger Jordan officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mason Funeral Home where visitation was held Sunday evening, Sept. 7.
Kuhlmann was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Fredericksburg, the son of Harry Kuhlmann and Wanda Burrer Kuhlmann. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1949.
After leaving the Navy, Kuhlmann married Annabel Loth. In earlier years, his family lived in West Texas where he worked with an oil company on a seismograph crew.
Later, moving back to Fredericksburg, Kuhlmann worked with his father-in-law, Eddie Loth, managing Pioneer Service Station.
Kuhlmann then worked as a barber in Fredericksburg for 15 years with Robert Pape.
On June 9, 1973, he married Betty Crouch and moved to Mason where he had barber shops in Harper and Mason for 37 years, totaling 52 years as a barber, and retiring from the profession at age 83.
In addition to his wife, Kuhlmann is survived by two sons, Gary Kuhlmann and his wife, DeDe, of Mason, and Corky Kuhlmann of Wimberley, and a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Marc Upchurch of Fort Worth.
He is also survived by a step-daughter, step-son and spouses, Susan and Michael Hughes of Dallas and Jerry and Lyla Crouch of Mason; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Allie Kuhlmann.
Kuhlmann was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenneth Kuhlmann.
Memorials may be made to the Mason VFW.
Pallbearers included Mason Kuhlmann, Adam Upchurch, Eric Bean, Jason Bean, Kegan Crouch, Ryan Crouch, Granger Williams and Garrett Kuhlmann.
