Mrs. Alton D. Bell

Mrs. Alton D. Bell, 97, the former Clara Lina Schmidt Herbort, of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.

Interment followed in the Meusebach Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening and Friday morning at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Bell was born May 30, 1917, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Ernst Schmidt and Meta Herbort Schmidt. She married Alvin E. Herbort on July 25, 1934. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1960. 

She then married Alton D. Bell on Dec. 16, 1977. He died Oct. 8, 1994.

Over the years, Mrs. Bell worked as a chef and baker at Pioneer Village Restaurant, Andy’s Diner and Deluxe Restaurant. She also worked at Market Produce and was member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Bell is survived by two sons, two daughters and spouses, including Bobby and Elsie Herbort of Mills, Wyoming; Lila Mae and Edwin Beyer Jr., Julia, Mrs. Jackie Goehmann and Anthony Herbort, all of Fredericksburg.

Survivors also include seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.             

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by a son, Jerry (J.C.) Herbort; a son-in-law, Jackie Goehmann; two sisters and three brothers, including Olga, Mrs. Arthur Lorenz; Alex Schmidt; Estella, Mrs. Earle Summers; Henry P. Schmidt, and Chester G. Schmidt.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Golden Hub Community Center or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Laramie Welch, Lincoln Welch, Cody Beyer, Chris Beyer, Barret Kolle, Fred Feuge and Bri Hickman.
