Devon Schneider Vela

Devon Schneider Vela, 41, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Hartmann officiating.

Interment followed in the Schneider Family Cemetery at Cherry Spring.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home where visitation was held Friday evening, May 30.

Mrs. Vela was born Nov. 10, 1972, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Dennis Schneider and Doris Jane Birck Schneider. She married Pedro Vela Jr. on Dec. 30, 1991, and he survives.

For over 20 years, she worked at Hill Country Memorial Hospital, serving as a ward clerk and phlebotomist.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Vela is survived by a daughter, Destiny Nadine Vela of Fredericksburg, and one grandson.

Survivors also include her mother, Doris Jane Schneider, and two sisters, Denise Hawkins and her husband, Grover, and Dena Schneider, all of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her father and a granddaughter, Faith Nevaeh Vela.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. John Lutheran Church at Crabapple, Zion Lutheran Church Altar Guild or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Kaston Hawkins, Allen Petsch, Kenny Priess, Alfredo Vela, Antulio Vela and Kelly Wanner.
