Claudio Alonzo Ramirez Sr., 83, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating.

The body was cremated with interment of the cremains planned at a later date.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service, led by Deacon Francisco de la Torre, were held Sunday evening, Feb. 16.

Ramirez was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Pleasanton, the son of Nicanor Ramirez and Estevana Reyes Ramirez. His wife, the former Cruz Rangel, survives.

In addition to his wife, Ramirez is survived by three sons, six daughters and spouses, including Francisca and Francisco Hernandez, San Juanita Ramirez, Enereida and Trinidad Herrera and Mirtha and Benito DeLeon, all of Fredericksburg; Hector Ramirez, and Reyna and Cirilo Munoz, all of Mexico; Humberto and Annabel Ramirez, Junction; Ricardo and Virginia Ramirez, Iowa, and Alma and Terry Davis, Texas.

Survivors also include 37 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Margarito Lopez of Mexico.

Ramirez was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Claudio Alonzo Ramirez Jr., and Oscar Ramirez; three other children who died in infancy; five brothers: Pablo Lopez, Antonio Lopez, David Lopez, Domingo Lopez and Arturo Ramirez, and one sister, Juana Lopez.
