 Mrs. Martin Spenrath

       Mrs. Martin Spenrath, 92, nee Irene Neffendorf of Fredericksburg and formerly of Comfort, died Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort with the Rev. Rick Hartmann officiating.

Interment followed at Der Stadt Friedhof in Fredericksburg.

Visitation was held Tuesday morning before the funeral.

Mrs. Spenrath was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Alfred Neffendorf and Maud Kilbarn Neffendorf. She married Martin Spenrath on July 18, 1953, in Zion Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2006.

She held a master’s degree in education, and taught at the Meusebach Creek School from 1943-1947 and in the Comfort Independent School District from 1947-2007.

She received a Lifetime Service Award in 2007 from the Comfort ISD.

Mrs. Spenrath is survived by one brother, Daniel Neffendorf of New Braunfels, and two sisters, Vera Kneese of Fredericksburg and Emily Wilson and her husband, Ernest, of Marion.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Spenrath was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Neffendorf.

Memorials may be made to the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Steven Kneese, Jeremy Kneese, David Morris, Kristin Morris, Bobby Laughlin and Van Wilson.
