
Mrs. Rollie Peril, 99, nee Helen Doris Brown of Harper, died Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Harper Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Jim and Laurie Barker officiating.
Interment followed in the Harper Community Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation was held Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
Mrs. Peril was born Nov. 18, 1916, in the Blue Mountain community of Kimble County, the daughter of William Oliver Brown and Dorathea Barbra Wilhelm Brown. She married Rollie Peril on May 10, 1956, in Hunt. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She attended the Whitworth School, and finished her school years at Harper. She attended West Moreland College (now Trinity University) in San Antonio where she played college basketball.
She worked at First State Bank in Harper and drove a school bus from the Brown Ranch home in the early 1940s.
Over the years, she worked off and on at the bank and continued ranching actively until her early 90’s.
Mrs. Peril participated in in community activities at Harper. She and her husband were instrumental in helping construct the Harper Community Hall in the Harper Community Park.
She and other community leaders helped raise funds in the Harper community for the construction of Hill Country Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Peril served as president and an officer in the PTA, Presbyterian Women’s Association, Harper Centennial organization, Harper American Legion Auxiliary, of which she was a charter member, and many other charitable organizations.
She is survived by four daughters and spouses, including Diana Doris Peril, Barbara and Ernie Gabriel, Jo Beth and Tom Pickens and Carolyn and Bill Meeks, all of Harper.
Survivors also include eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Peril was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters, including Wallace Brown, Ervin Brown, Sylvenus Brown, Moses Brown, Clint Brown, Van Brown, Evelyn Miller, Estella Whitworth, Edith Whitewood and Willie Kaiser.
Memorials may be made to the Harper Presbyterian Church, the Harper Cemetery Fund, the Harper Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of choice.
Pallbearers included Kelly Gabriel, Jack Gabriel, Kim Hesse, Candace Spenrath, Will Pickens, Kacey Key, Krista Bennett and Kolt Meeks.
